Features Editor Nick Mafi includes the award winning office building in a recent round up of “The Best-Designed Buildings in Every U.S. State,” calling the repositioning project “a dream for any lover of modern architecture.”
Mafi opens the piece by noting that “In many ways, architecture is a balancing act. The best buildings retain many of the qualities within collectivism (prioritizing the group over any one person) while also maintaining a degree of individualism. This is not a simple feat…” He continues to explain the impetus of this editorial survey, “each state has its own claim in possessing stunningly beautiful architecture, buildings that further add to the ever-changing tapestry that is American culture. So much so, that we at [Architectural Digest] decided to break down each state in the U.S. to determine which building stands out among all the rest.”
The list includes historic buildings, such as The Glass House, Grand Central Station, and Fallingwater, as well as more contemporary icons including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and 1111 Lincoln Road. Centra Metropark, located in Iselin, New Jersey, is an 110,000-square-foot, LEED Platinum building that offers a new paradigm for the suburban office experience – one which blends urbanism with the living landscape. Woven together, the landscape and building form encourage social interaction and provide a healthier and more sustainable workplace environment.
“At its core, architecture moves past its function as merely a building and turns into a landmark once it’s made a distinct presence on a city’s identity,” writes Mafi in closing. “We believe these structures do just that.” To read the full piece online, please click here.
