40 Charter Street Shortlisted for a Sustainability Award

The built-to-rent residential tower is a Net Zero finalist in the 2024 Building Awards, recognised for its innovative approach to reducing embodied carbon.

At the KPF-designed 40 Charter Street, the project team has adopted multiple strategies to achieve significant carbon reductions while maintaining construction efficiency, in alignment with the Net Zero Carbon Pathway outlined by the Canary Wharf Group in 2020. Multiple strategies have been adopted, such as optimised structural design, seasonal concrete mixes, and real-time carbon tracking during construction.

“Recording the actual embodied carbon, including wastage, for each element has enhanced our understanding of achievable reductions and informed the setting of more ambitious targets for future projects,” said a spokesperson from structural engineers Thornton Tomasetti.

40 Charter Street, located in London’s Wood Wharf district, includes 552 built-to-rent apartments with high-quality residential and amenity spaces, focused on everyday wellbeing.

Winners will be announced during the awards ceremony on November 5. See shortlisted projects here.
