1000 Maine Wins The Architect’s Newspaper Best of Design Award

Completed earlier this year, the trophy office building was honored in the Commercial Office category.

On December 4, The Architect’s Newspaper announced winners of the 2019 Best of Design Awards, recognizing buildings, building elements, interiors, and installations across several categories. Designed by KPF with FOX Architects as Architect of Record, 1000 Maine received the top prize in its category.

As the centerpiece of The Wharf, Washington D.C.’s new waterfront district, the carefully-crafted 1000 Maine is an eight-story, contemporary office building set on the bank of the Potomac River. The building boasts next generation workspace that is flexible, light-filled, and airy, supporting both open office and intensive users equally, while prioritizing occupant experience and comfort. 10-foot finished ceilings, a height rare in the region, enhance the interior experience while terraces and roof gardens provide workers with access to the outdoors and incredible views of the river and nearby national landmarks.
