Robert Whitlock Presents CITIC Tower in Skyscraper Museum Talk

On February 23, the KPF Principal discussed the Beijing supertall as part of the Skyscraper Museum’s Supertall! 2020 exhibition lecture series, during which architects provide insight into the design of their tallest towers.

CITIC Tower is located at the core of Beijing’s Central Business District, serving as the city’s tallest structure at 528 meters. The design accounts for the location’s seismic zone and takes inspiration from a ritual vessel, a “zun,” originating in China’s Bronze Age, present in the tower’s flared form. CITIC Tower is the headquarters for the investment company of the same name, and directly connects to Beijing’s metro system and major thoroughfares. As the Design Principal of the project, Rob Whitlock discussed CITIC Tower’s design, development, and impact on China’s capital.

The free presentation took place on Wednesday, February 23 at 6 pm EST. View previous lectures in the series on the Skyscraper Museum’s Youtube channel here.

Last month, KPF President James von Klemperer presented two of the firm’s supertalls, Lotte World Tower and China Resources Tower, in a Skyscraper Museum event. Learn more here.
