Midtown Manhattan’s tallest office tower, One Vanderbilt was recognized in the Best Tall Building 400 meters and above, and Best Tall Office Building categories. The building opened in Fall 2020, when many were questioning the future of the office. The project is now more than 95% leased, and in October 2021 the Financial Times reported on the project’s market success, quoting Marc Holliday, Chief Executive of SL Green, the project’s developer, who said “I wish I had 20 more floors because if I did we could lease them.” One Vanderbilt also recently won the steel industry’s top design award.
Sequis Tower was honored in the Best Tall Office Building category. Comprised of four offset forms to create a skyline-defining structure and provide structural stability within an active seismic zone, the project is one of Indonesia’s first LEED Platinum buildings. Welcoming the public, it pulls on-site traffic circulation below grade and elevates the parking, reserving the ground plane for green space and pedestrian movement.
Anchoring the largest private real estate development in U.S. history, 30 Hudson Yards won the Structural Engineering Award. The tower embraces the prevailing character of Manhattan’s West Side and announces the new neighborhood with a fresh visual dynamic. Rising above the Empire State Building, the 1,296-foot-tall tower features river-to-river panoramic views, outdoor terraces, a triple-height lobby, and is home to Edge, the Western Hemisphere’s highest outdoor observation deck.
390 Madison, chosen for the Renovation Award, is a dramatic transformation and modernization of an outmoded office building in the heart of New York City’s Midtown corridor. A surgical re-massing and configuration of this overbuilt property in the heart of Midtown Manhattan enabled the provision of modern work space without sacrificing valuable area.
