The KPF-designed office tower won the Best Office/Retail/Mixed-Use Award and the Merit Award for Excellence in Sustainability, while the residential project received Best Residential/Hospitality in the 2021 program.
Midtown Manhattan’s tallest office tower, One Vanderbilt rises over 1,400 feet and directly connects to Grand Central Terminal, providing a new pathway into one of the city’s largest transportation hubs. Comprised of four interlocking forms that taper towards the sky, the tower provides a new icon on the city’s skyline, paying respect to the neighboring Chrysler Building.
For the first time ever, this year’s program includes a category for Excellence in Sustainability, in which One Vanderbilt received a Merit Award, in addition to winning the Best of Office/Retail/Mixed-Use. Built with concrete made with 40% cement replacement and steel rebar made of 90% recycled content, the project achieved both LEED v3 Platinum and LEED v4 Gold certifications. Jaros, Baum & Bolles, the MEP Engineer for the project, submitted the project for the awards.
Brooklyn Point earned Best Residential/Hospitality. The project anchors City Point in Downtown Brooklyn, creating a gateway and landmark for the borough. Containing 458 residences through a mix of studios to 3-bedroom apartments, the tower also includes over 40,000 square feet of amenity spaces and the city’s highest rooftop infinity-edge pool, offering views over both Brooklyn and Manhattan skylines. Lendlease (US) Construction LMB Inc., a consultant on the project, submitted the project .
