On Thursday, September 7th, KPF, Sherman Carter Barnhart Architects, and the University of Kentucky celebrated the groundbreaking for the renovation of the College of Law. Scheduled to open in Fall 2019, the original 1965 building will undergo a 26% expansion adding 11 new classrooms, a new 185-seat moot court room, and over 20 group study rooms.
On August 8th, SOHO China and KPF celebrated the topping out of SOHO Gubei in Shanghai. Brian Chung, Director at KPF, stood alongside SOHO Chairman, Pan Shiyi, and other representatives from KPF and our client. At this event, the attendees ceremoniously shoveled concrete on the site, symbolizing their role as partners in the project’s execution.
On Tuesday, July 25th, a flurry of middle school students came to the KPF New York office in pursuit of tall tower intel. As part of the Center for Architecture’s summer family programming, the class of twenty-five sixth to eighth graders were participating in a week-long program on skyscraper design geared toward creativity and play.
On June 29th, UN-Habitat tapped KPF Director of Urban Planning Design Jeff Shumaker to speak at their latest forum in Madrid, Spain. As part of the organization’s New Urban Agenda, the event gathered a mix of elected officials and invited experts of a number of topics, from planning and design to livability and equity.
Director Elie Gamburg participated in a panel at this year’s NewCities Summit from June 7th to 9th, 2017. The summit took place in Incheon Songdo, South Korea, gathering diverse professionals to discuss the umbrella topic of “Thriving Cities: The Building Blocks of Urban Wellbeing.” NewCities, a nonprofit and think tank based in Montréal, Quebec, sponsored and organized the event.
Echelon Seaport held its ceremonial groundbreaking on Tuesday, June 13, with several members of the KPF team in attendance. The event gathered governmental, design, and construction professionals to celebrate the future of Boston’s seaport district as a cultural and residential destination.
The KPF-designed School of Transnational Law for Peking University (PKU) opened on March 20th, 2017, with Managing Principal Jill Lerner and Director Elie Gamburg attending the ceremony in Shenzhen, China.
