St Paul’s Place

St Paul’s Place is an exciting transformation project at the heart of the City of London. An outdated 1980s office building will become an outstanding workplace and a new destination to visit and enjoy along London’s Culture Mile.

At St Paul’s Place the benefits of a new build project can be achieved through a major retrofit of the existing building. KPF’s design will modernise and transform the existing building in a series of architectural interventions, creating larger office floor plates and plentiful outside space. Double-height glazed atriums at office entrances maximise daylight and emphasise important views across the City. At every opportunity, office floors have been provided with their own external terraces, created by a stepped composition of the new bays. At the top, a large publicly accessible roof garden will be created, with a landscape designed to evoke a continuous meadow. At ground level, an arcade has been introduced, activating the public realm, and an expansive digital display wall for curated arts and media will link into the City’s Culture Mile walk.

The design seeks to evolve and soften the current appearance of the building. The façade is updated and opened up, removing unnecessary elements and using terracotta in textured spandrels inspired by the fossil patterns on the current Roach stone.

The project will improve the building’s environmental performance and minimise environmental impact. St. Paul’s Place aims to achieve the highest standards, targeting a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ rating and WELL ‘Gold’ standard.
