Taking place on August 14, the tour consisted of over 30 interested participants and ULI staff who experienced the KPF-designed headquarters building from lobby to rooftop.
During the tour, the group explored various aspects of the adaptive reuse project which reconfigured an outdated Madison Avenue office building, adding an elegant new tower while retaining 67% of the original structure. Tour members noted that the rooftop space is particularly striking as it affords occupants close-up views of the neighboring landmarked clock tower amidst serene gardens and outdoor seating. The lower levels house flexible workspaces with maximized ceiling heights and a Class-A vertical transportation system, enabled by a gut renovation involving new open floorplates and a modern service core. The Metropolitan Life Insurance Co.’s Clock Tower is visually complemented above the renovated podium by a new lower tower that steps back from the historic structure with a series of graceful terraces.
