The New York Post Praises KPF’s One Madison Avenue

At One Madison Avenue, KPF has successfully added an elegant new office tower atop an existing limestone podium to create a contemporary workplace that complements the landmark clocktower next door and deliver an amenity-rich office experience. As The New York Post pointed out in a recent article about the adaptive reuse projects shaping the city’s urban fabric today, it would have been easier to tear down the building’s existing mid-century limestone podium and start fresh, but much would have been lost. KPF’s design incorporates the historic material to establish a dialogue between past and present. To support the new tower, footings were enlarged by 200%, 13 columns were added and existing ones reinforced.

The article cites the One Madison Avenue’s amenities and hospitality-inflected programming. “The building has 1.2 acres of outdoor space including a rooftop restaurant designed by David Rockwell. A 54,000-square-foot Chelsea Piers fitness center will be open to the public, while along East 23^rd Street, new dining options will deliver both upscale and affordable offerings,” the paper reports. Already the building is proving itself a commercial success, boasting a tenant roster that includes IMB, Franklin Templeton, Triple Seven, and Palo Alto Networks.
