Phase II of the Ross School of Business, University of Michigan, Wins AIA New York State Honor Award

The New York State Chapter of the American Institute of Architects has awarded this complex project with its prestigious award.

Phase II of the Steven M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan secures the school’s status as one of the premier business schools in America, with a world-class facility that carries forward the architectural vernacular of the campus.

The scope of Phase II continues the work of remaking the campus, adding another significant academic building, replacing or upgrading the remaining facilities, and unifying the complex in a common stylistic language. The new project provides state-of-the-art space for student services, Executive Education, career services, as well as additional classrooms and student study spaces. Phase II also rounds out the overall business school complex with new entries, landscaped courtyards, and a coherent circulation system that connects the complex’s major thoroughfares. A palette of terra cotta, glass, and sandstone continues the stylistic vocabulary of the first phase.

Phase II concludes a larger decade-long project to remake the entire Ross School of Business. Following an extensive project definition study, Phase I was completed in 2009, encompassing a significant replacement of four buildings with new classrooms, an auditorium, and faculty offices, as well as collaborative and study areas.

Winners of the AIA New York State Design Awards will be announced at an event on November 8.
