390 Madison Avenue won this year’s Architectural Review/MIPIM Future Projects Award for Best “Old and New” project. The Midfield Terminal Complex at Abu Dhabi International Airport has been shortlisted for the 2018 Awards as MIPIM’s Best “Futura Mega” Project, and the winner will be announced in Cannes next week.
These projects represent KPF’s breadth of expertise across program types and geographic locales. Located in Midtown Manhattan, 390 Madison Avenue is a dramatic transformation and modernization of an outmoded office building, exemplifying an inventive solution to the city’s glut of outdated building stock. Its new configuration offers several new, double-height spaces, column-free perimeters, and an energy efficient façade.
Upon its completion in Abu Dhabi, the Midfield Terminal Complex will process up to 50 million passengers each year to meet the needs of the rapidly expanding capital. With a grand arch spanning 50 meters and a dramatic, undulating profile, the building is the dominant and most impressive structure on the horizon. Its X-shape provides the greatest programmatic efficiencies to minimize travel time between gates and optimize airport activities.
