KPF’s Work in Covent Garden Shortlisted in Sunday Times British Homes Awards

The Floral Court Collection, part of the mixed-use Floral Court development for Capital & Counties (Capco), has been shortlisted in two categories: Apartment Development of the Year; and Best Interior Design Development.

The collection of 31 apartments sees contemporary architecture interwoven with historic buildings of varied styles and materials and ornate historic interiors restored and repurposed as key spaces for residents.

Facades of handmade brick and steel-framed windows were inspired by the surrounding warehouses but are distinctly modern in scale and proportion. A dramatic feature corner, a balanced asymmetric arrangement of bay windows recalling the stacked fruit and vegetable crates of the former Covent Garden market, makes an important contribution to the street scene.

The Penthouse, curated by Studio Ashby, was shortlisted in the ‘Interior design category’. “The rooftops of Covent Garden inspired the interior architecture of the penthouse,” explains KPF Principal Brian Girard. “Tall, elegant windows frame views both of the distinctive texture and character of the neighbourhood and the familiar landmarks beyond. The penthouse was conceived as a continuous space that blurs the boundaries between inside and outside, allowing the resident to feel both immersed in this theatrical neighbourhood and at peace within a well-proportioned, calm interior.”

Winners will be announced on September 19, at an awards lunch. Find out more and see the full shortlist here.
