First year architecture students from the University of Westminster joined experts from the London office for a series of talks focusing on some of the most important topics for architects today.
Design Principal John Bushell outlined key themes for today’s students of architecture. He focused on transformation projects, such as Panorama St Paul’s in the City of London and Hudson Commons in New York, and the challenges of designing in a climate emergency.
Additionally, KPF’s Environmental Performance team outlined tools and approaches for minimising operational and embodied carbon impacts, while improving internal and external comfort. From KPFui, Justyna Szychowska outlined some of the bespoke software KPF uses to analyse the impact of projects at their earliest phases, and Jonathon Dreyfus explored the role that AI is likely to play in students’ future careers.
KPF is working as a Practice Friend with the University of Westminster, participating in studio critiques throughout the year and providing an insight into architectural practice. The University of Westminster is recognised as having one of the most diverse student bodies. The Practice Friends initiative aims to provide access and contacts within the profession, to inspire and support the next generation of architects.
