On June 26, KPF Pride and the AIANY LGBTQIA+ Alliance joined together to celebrate LGBTQIA+ architects, designers, and friends.
Hosted at the Lutron NYC Global Experience Center, the event featured special guests and networking, as well as design-inspired craft cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. KPF’s Alec Herskowitz spoke on behalf of event co-sponsor KPF Pride, the community group dedicated to raising awareness of LGBTQIA+ issues within the firm.
The Pride Celebration marked the first anniversary of the AIANY LGBTQIA+ Alliance. The organization’s mission is to promote and advocate for members the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer community within the architecture, engineering, and construction community. In remarks at the event, Matthew Ferraro, Alliance co-chair and Associate Principal at Weiss/Manfredi, commemorated the group’s accomplishments of the past year while anticipating the work that is yet to be done. Christian Torres of Lutron also spoke.
The Human Rights Campaign Foundation, the nation’s largest LGBTQ+ civil rights organization, was this year’s Pride Celebration benefactor. Fighting for equality, equity and liberation for all LGBTQ+ people, the foundation works to transform the systems that affect our everyday lives, advancing LGBTQ+ inclusivity across the nation and beyond.
Earlier in the year, KPF Pride hosted a diversity happy hour with Build Out Alliance, a partner of the community group, as a part of their work to promote inclusivity.
The event took place from 6 pm to 8 pm with free admission for its guests. Learn more about the event here.
