The firm’s Hong Kong office renewed the tradition of hosting a sharing session for students from the Architectural Explorer Program by The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
The visit was kickstarted by a warm welcome from KPF Principal Bernard Chang, who spoke to the 15 students about a wide array of KPF projects across the globe and the origins of the practice. A sharing session by Associate Principal Tinyiu Fung and Architectural Designer Brian Wong completed the narrative, covering the aspirations of KPFui and the experience of working at KPF as a recent CUHK graduate.
The visiting students showed great interest in KPF’s environmental commitments as a global leading architectural practice, and they raised questions about how carbon footprint is mitigated in building design. In the dialogue, KPF Director Florence Chan elaborated on the AIA 2030 Commitment and KPF’s pledge to cut the firm’s carbon footprint by 70%. The visit wrapped up with a tour of the studio space, where students gained an idea of how architects work with software, models, and materials in day-to-day operations.
The Architectural Explorer Program is a 2-week summer school program organized by CUHK. The course is dedicated to enabling secondary school students from Hong Kong and abroad to understand firsthand the joys and challenges of studying architecture, encouraging students to unleash their creative potential.
