The firm celebrates the opening of its third office in the country to service ongoing work and new commissions, and engage with existing and new clients.
KPF is pleased to announce the opening of a new office in China, located in Shenzhen, the third dedicated outpost in the Greater China region. As the firm’s ninth global office, it will build on KPF’s strong presence in Asia, currently facilitated by a global network of collaboration across all offices, and provide a closer and more direct experience for clients and collaborators in Shenzhen, the Greater Bay Area, and across China.
“All of us at KPF are excited to open a new office in Shenzhen, having led successful projects there for over 15 years,” said James von Klemperer, KPF President. “The vitality of the city and the way its citizens embrace new technologies make it an ideal environment for the pursuit of progressive architecture. We look forward to deepening our design contributions to the city – and to the larger Greater Bay Area – for years to come.”
Leading KPF’s Shenzhen office is Florence Chan, Director, who began her tenure in New York and has risen through the ranks of the firm’s Hong Kong office over the past decade, playing an essential role in many of KPF’s projects and acting as a liaison between clients and consultants in Asia and design teams in New York and London.
“For almost 15 years, Shenzhen has been a key node in our practice, host to many of the firm’s most significant accomplishments,” said Florence. “The establishment of the Shenzhen office reinforces our commitment to the city and the Greater Bay Area. One step closer to our projects, we are excited to strengthen our engagement and deepen our presence in the local community.”
The new office will be located in the KPF-designed China Resources Tower which marks the burgeoning Houhai District with a design distinguished by its innovative structure and geometric purity. The building also anchors the KPF-planned development that stitches retail, residential, and office amenities with 2,000 square meters of public space and the city’s greenbelt and waterfront. Together, the tower and complex invigorate Shenzhen’s urban fabric while providing one of the country’s premier companies with a visual icon for its historic growth and stature.
A city that has seen remarkable growth over the last three decades, Shenzhen is home to many completed projects by KPF, including:
- The Ping An Finance Centre, the tallest building in the city and the fourth tallest in the world, and the connecting Ping An Finance Centre South Tower, a mixed-use building home to the Park Hyatt Shenzhen
- The China Resources Tower, which has been internationally recognized for excellence in design and development
- OCT Tower, located at the juncture of the city’s built and natural environments, with an angular form that serves as a beacon for commuters and visitors
- One Shenzhen Bay, a multi-building development that includes six high-end residential towers, one office tower, and a landmark 338-meter mixed-use tower that houses the prestigious Raffles Shenzhen
- Lenovo Shenzhen, which integrates two Class-A office towers, into a vibrant mixed-use environment with retail and cultural programming
KPF also is at work on multiple projects at various stages of planning and construction in Shenzhen, including:
- Citymark Tower, one of the region’s tallest mixed-use towers which anchors the first phase of the five-block, mixed-use Citymark Center in the Luohu District
- The TP Link Headquarters, which reimagines the traditional office environment based around a full-height, 30-floor atrium
- Qianhai Kerry Centre, an award-winning new neighborhood along the Qianhai Bay that interweaves the scenic waterfront environment with high-density, multi-layered, urban development
- Prince Bay Taiziwan Plots, a major mixed-use development with strong retail presence through dynamic projections, active public spaces, a prominent green corridor, and ample amenities
KPF has worked on more than 100 projects of various types and sizes in China since completing its first building there in 2000. Notably, the firm has designed some of the country’s most significant towers, including the CTF Finance Centre in Guangzhou, the city’s tallest building and one of the tallest in the world. The tower demonstrates the alignment of supertall design with cultural, environmental, and contextual sensitivity. Recently, KPF completed a cutting edge, sustainable new campus for the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou). Planned, designed, and built in 3 years, HKUST(GZ) is a carbon neutral-ready, 267-acre research and learning campus. The project provides an inspirational environment for students, faculty, and staff to live, work, investigate, and study, establishing a world-leading standard in higher education for future generations and campuses across China.
In addition to the new Shenzhen location, KPF has offices in New York, London, San Francisco, Berlin, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Seoul, and Singapore.
