On International Women’s Day, Rebecca Cheng Discusses Leadership and Empowerment at New World Expo

On March 8, the KPF Principal attended a design-focused event and site visit at the Shanghai World Expo Center, co-hosted by Shen Shou Run Investment and China Resources Land.

In the roundtable “New Women Leadership,” Rebecca, alongside fellow industry leaders, provided insight about the power of women designers and the growing class of women leaders that are shaping professional dynamics. Opening remarks were delivered by Ms. Wang Shuang, Vice General Manager of China Resources Land East China Region, and Mr. Zeng Danhao, VP of Asset Management at Shen Shou Run Investment, followed by a session led by Ms. Zhang Tianle, Chairwoman of the AIA Women Architects Committee.

Also at the event, a session focused on the development of the Expo Area and Expo Place projects. KPF has been closely involved in the development of the Qiantan neighborhood, an area just south of the Expo center. KPF-designed projects include Qiantan Center, NYU Shanghai, and Crystal Plaza.  Attendees heard design insights and stories from China Resources Land East China Region leaders and designers of the BC Section of the Expo Area, among others. Ms. Wei Wenmei, Founder of DBW and Vice Chair of AIA Shanghai, and Ms. Zhu Likang, Founder of the architectural and cultural media firms “i-Talk” and “A Date with Architects,” shared stories of transformation in their careers and how they grew into their leadership roles. The event concluded with closing remarks by former AIA Chairwoman Kathy Zhu.
