KPF’s Environmental Design Director was recognized for his evidence-based approach to sustainable design.
Spearheading sustainability initiatives on KPF projects and across the firm’s operations, Carlos works to shift the architectural field’s approach from traditional “checklist sustainability” to evidence-driven assessments. KPF’s performance-based approach to designing cutting-edge sustainable projects such as HKUST(GZ), the new biomedical research building at Columbia University, and Burrard Exchange is essential to fulfilling our commitment to design net-zero carbon projects by 2030 in line with the AIA and RIBA 2030 Commitments.
Crain’s New York recognized Carlos for his work leading KPF’s Environmental Performance team along with his scientific research and teaching appointments at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, the Center for Real Estate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and the Columbia Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation.
The Notable Leaders in Sustainability list is an annual program that recognizes individuals driving environmental change in the realms of business, policy, design, and beyond. Honorees are nominated by their peers or institutions and selected based on their accomplishments, record of success, and contributions to their industry.
