SOHO Gubei Tops Out in Shanghai

On August 8th, SOHO China and KPF celebrated the topping out of SOHO Gubei in Shanghai. At this event, the attendees, including KPF Director Brian Chung standing alongside SOHO Chairman Pan Shiyi, ceremoniously shoveled concrete on the site, symbolizing their roles as partners in the project’s execution.

When completed, the 38-story office tower will exhibit a distinctive zig-zag form, at once rational and expressive. Inspired by Brancusi’s celebrated Endless Column, the design consists of four, stacked volumes defined by a series of shifted grids equipped to shade sun, reduce glass flare, and craft a sense of urban solidity. Its podium, which will stand 12 stories tall, will complement the tower in its simple articulation.

Due to its siting near the new Hongqiao Central Park, SOHO Gubei will also become a signature landmark for Shanghai’s central business district, with landscape design that extends the park experience to the project.

KPF’s experience in Shanghai ranges from one of the world’s tallest towers, Shanghai World Financial Center, to major academic complexes, such as NYU’s satellite campus, to hospitality and retail developments like Langham and Andaz Xintiandi.
