James von Klemperer Participates in MASterworks Panel on Neighborhoods Now

On November 17th, the KPF President discussed the Bedford-Stuyvesant initiative alongside fellow team members, following the project’s recent MASterworks Award from the Municipal Arts Society.

This fall, Neighborhoods Now was honored in the MASterworks Awards with a special recognition for excellence in community-engaged co-design, due to the project’s neighborhood contributions and thoughtful design. The project, developed by the Van Alen Institute and Urban Design Forum, brought KPF and collaborating firms together to partner with the Bedford-Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation to address challenges in the neighborhood regarding social inequity, enhanced by COVID-19. During the “MASterworks Conversations: Neighborhoods Now” panel, von Klemperer provided insight into the design perspective, followed by panelists sharing the new strategies the group invented to collaborate and build relationships with the community.

von Klemperer was joined by Dyrnest Sinckler of Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation, Matt Grunbaum of James Corner Field Operations, and Farzana Gandhi of Farzana Gandhi Design Studio. Calvin Tsao moderated the panel.

The panel was part of NYCxDesign, a MAS partner organization that has curated a series of programs to celebrate architecture and design in New York through activities, programs, and exhibitions.

The panel took place virtually on Wednesday, November 17th at 1 PM EDT. Registration for the free event took place here.
