Runway CEO Cristóbal Valenzuela Recognizes KPF as a Frontrunner in AI Rendering

In a recent interview with the Spanish publication El País, the Runway co-founder and CEO discussed the groundbreaking applications of AI video generation across multiple industries, spotlighting KPF as an early adopter in the field of architecture.

The article traces Runway’s origins to 2019, when three NYU Tisch School of the Arts graduates—including Valenzuela—launched the world’s first commercially available AI-powered video generation tool, preceding the release of OpenAI’s Sora and Google Veo 2. In the interview, Valenzuela describes how Runway’s tools, initially developed for film production and post-production, have quickly expanded into advertising, marketing, design, video games, and architecture. “In the United States, KPF (an architecture firm) has used our tools to create renderings, drastically simplifying the process. You simply upload your image, tell the model what you want it to do, and it generates a video in 10 seconds. This is very fast, very easy, and much cheaper than the previous method,” Valenzuela explained.

KPF first highlighted its pioneering use of Runway during Tech Week 2025, when Valenzuela visited the firm’s New York headquarters to present and participate in a panel discussion with KPF Director Chad Christie and Senior Associate Principal Anna Pietrzak. The El País article also explores Runway’s influence on the film industry, including its role in the production of the new series House of David, and features Valenzuela’s insights on the future of AI-generated video.
