“Bigger & Better,” the innovative design for Terminal A is explained by KPF Design Principal Mustafa Chehabeddine in the magazine article.
Terminal A has doubled the capacity of Abu Dhabi’s airport, welcoming 13.9 million passengers in the first half of 2024 and picking up the 2024 Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Awards for best airport at arrivals globally, based on data from the ASQ passenger satisfaction program.
At Terminal A, unprecedented flexibility has been created by replacing columns with ‘mega arches’. The ideal form was researched using the latest technologies in modelling and structural engineering, to discover the optimum plan, spans and layout. The final solution produces some of the largest spans ever built in interior environments.
The airport terminal has received multiple accolades this year, including the Prix Versailles World’s Most Beautiful Airport and placing within the top three in Skytrax’s World’s Best Airport ranking.
Passenger Terminal World Magazine is an international review of airport terminal design, technology, security, operations, and management.
