Hugh Trumbell and Christina X. Brown Speak at AIA26

Principal Hugh Trumbull AIA will present research on the cultural, environmental, and economic case for adaptive reuse, while Senior Environmental Performance Specialist Christina Brown will moderate a session on simulation-based design.

Hugh will join Lori Ferriss, AIA (Built Buildings Lab) to co-present The Economic, Sustainability, & Urban Revitalization Case for Adaptive Reuse, a session grounded in new research that quantifies the embodied carbon reductions and community co-benefits of reuse at scale. The discussion draws on case studies from around the globe to compare economic and sustainability drivers across different contexts, while offering practical strategies for overcoming the regulatory and financial barriers that can hinder adaptive reuse projects.

Hugh’s session will be on June 10 from 11:30am to 12:30pm at the San Diego Convention Center, Meeting Room 30.

Christina will moderate the panel Advancing Building Performance Through Simulation-Based Design to explore how integrated simulation workflows can strengthen the feedback loop between performance analysis, technical coordination, and architectural decision-making—from early design through late-stage verification. Panelists include Dru Crawley (Bentley), Patrick Keeney (WSP), Alejandra Menchaca (AIRLIT studio), Michael Sawford (A2 Efficiency), and Guanzhou Ji (Northeastern University).

Christina’s panel will be on June 12 from 2:30 to 4:00pm at San Diego Convention Center, Meeting Room 25.
