Bush House South West Wing Breaks Ground in London

The redevelopment of Bush House South West Wing marks a significant milestone in the transformation of the Strand Campus at King’s College London.

Designed by KPF, the project will deliver a welcoming, adaptive, and innovative environment that enhances the experience of students and staff. KPF Principal Elie Gamburg and Director Samantha Cooke joined King’s College London, Kier, and external partners to mark the ground-breaking of the South West Wing.

Professor Shitij Kapur, Vice-Chancellor & President at King’s College London, said: “As we approach King’s 200 year anniversary, the redevelopment of Bush House South West Wing will create a new centre for students firmly at the heart of the campus, acting as an anchor for many generations to come.”

At the heart of the new building is the ‘Agora’, a flexible, 160-seat multi-purpose space designed to support teaching in the round, dialogue, and collaboration. “The transformation of Bush House South-West Wing represents a fundamental shift in how we support our whole community at King’s,” said Professor Rachel Mills, Senior Vice President (Academic), King’s College London. “It’s about creating welcoming, adaptive spaces where our students and staff can come together and develop meaningful connections across our institution and create our future together”

The deep retrofit project addresses many of the problems facing universities today, such as how to adapt historic or legacy buildings to meet emerging requirements, reduce carbon emissions, and lower operating costs to meet highest sustainability standards.
