ArchDaily Highlights HKUST Guangzhou as a Region-Defining Institution

The KPF-designed 267-acre research and learning campus is featured in the article “UniverCities: The Integration of the Campus and its City.”

Referencing a number of expansive college campuses and college towns, the outlet notes that cities and their academic institutions share an important relationship regarding the “growth and proliferation of knowledge… Campuses and their host cities evolve to mimic each other’s structure, forming opportunities for urban renewal.” Focusing on the advantages of integrating universities into their surroundings, the article observes, “Rather than existing as an isolated ‘city within a city,’ the extension of the campus fabric into its surroundings proves beneficial to cultural and economic development.”

Featured as one of six universities in the article, HKUST Guangzhou offers housing and amenity facilities for staff and students and serves as the centerpiece of a new innovation district in Nansha, located midway between Guangzhou and Shenzhen.
