KPF Celebrates Earth Day with Ongoing AIA 2030 Commitment

The firm continues to work toward the goal of designing fully electric and carbon neutral buildings by the year 2030, evolving designs toward carbon neutrality, prioritizing transparency in project performance, and reporting progress annually.

In 2019, KPF signed the AIA 2030 commitment along with 500+ firms in the United States, recognizing that buildings account for a large percentage of global CO2 emissions, particularly in cities. In collaboration with the firm’s dedicated Environmental Performance team, KPF designers track their projects’ progress and use energy modeling early and often. Last year, KPF reported energy data for the first time for over 120 buildings, showing an average carbon reduction of 44%. This year, the firm will share data for 100 projects, with 58 reporting for the first time.

The mission of the AIA 2030 Commitmentis to support the 2030 Challenge and transform the practice of architecture in a way that is holistic, firm-wide, project based, and data-driven. By prioritizing energy performance, participating firms can more easily work toward carbon neutral buildings, developments and major renovations by 2030.
