President James von Klemperer Gives Lecture in Shenzhen

On Friday, October 20th at a public event hosted by the Qianhai Authority and organized by the Shenzhen Planning Bureau, von Klemperer presented the “The Multi-Layered City in the Age of Innovation.”

Speaking to an audience of over 200 attendees including top government officials, city planners and real estate developers, Jamie introduced the firm’s international work and used it as the basis for delving into the topics of mixed-use development and strategies for livability within our diverse and growing cities.

Concentrating on complex urban fabrics, he began with KPF examples from New York, like Hudson Yards and One Vanderbilt, to discuss transit accessibility. Transitioning across oceans and continents, he explored Covent Garden in London, Lotte World Tower in Seoul, and ended with some essential KPF work within local, Chinese contexts. Each project facilitated von Klemperer’s larger rumination on how cities—layered with histories of meaning and development—can incorporate smart design to improve and enhance urban life.
