Boston’s Echelon Seaport Breaks Ground with Celebration

Echelon Seaport held its ceremonial groundbreaking on Tuesday, June 13, with several members of the KPF team in attendance. The event gathered governmental, design, and construction professionals to celebrate the future of Boston’s seaport district as a cultural and residential destination.

Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker and Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh spoke at the event, followed by a cocktail demonstration by celebrity chef Ming Tsai. KPF President Jamie von Klemperer and Directors Jorge Mendoza and Elie Gamburg represented senior management from the firm.

The complex on Seaport Boulevard will house three towers with 1.3 million square feet of condo and apartment space, as well as food and retail elements at the ground level.  Echelon is the first building within KPF’s master plan centered on a public square and set to become a major destination within Boston at large. The design combines careful planning with multi-block massing that steps in height down to the pedestrian level, resulting in a memorable, ‘urban village’ space.

Developed by Cottonwood Management, the project is one of the city’s largest private residential endeavors since the 1960s, and will fill an urban void that links separate clusters of activity and architectural character across Boston. Recently revealed renderings of the complex project are shown here.
