30 Hudson Yards Lobby & Café

As both a pedestrian thoroughfare and an entry to the office floors above, the 30 Hudson Yards lobby is activated by a café, large-scale public art, and rich materiality.

The dramatic height of the lower lobby is emphasized by “Voices,” a large-scale installation by Jaume Plensa consisting of stainless-steel spheres suspended from the ceiling. One level up, the upper lobby provides access to the individual tenant lobbies, and is a public concourse that links Hudson Yards’ outdoor plaza to the west with 10th Avenue to the east, while also connecting to the adjacent 20 Hudson Yards.

The materials in these three spaces work together to create an experience of transition from a dynamic urban environment to one of focus and work. The lower lobby incorporates the glass and stone used on the building’s exterior and is defined by an eye-catching wall of cast bronze. The upper lobby is anchored by a bold, sinuous, curved wall of veneer stained silver birch, which lifts and pulls back to reveal a café. Defined by a KPF-designed custom table fabricated by SITU, this space offers a welcoming place to gather. Opposite the curved wall, heavily textured cleft travertine with bronze portals frame the entry into the tenant lobbies, which are scaled down and more intimate. The reception desks are marked by the custom glass light fixtures above. The large Ombra di Caravaggio marble slabs that line the walls are arranged in a ‘book matched’ pattern, and function as artwork leading into the elevator lobby.
