Prudential Newark Receives LEED Gold Certification

The recently-completed Prudential Newark Tower has been awarded LEED Gold Certification.

The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) rating system developed by the U.S. Green Building council (USGBC), is the foremost program for buildings homes and communities that are designed, constructed, maintained and operated for improved environmental and human healthy performance.

Prudential Newark strengthens the city's downtown core, providing a state-of-the-art office building for more than 3,000 employees, redefining the western edge of Military Park, activating the streetwall along Broad Street, and setting a high standard for sustainable development in the area.  The new tower includes offices, a conference center, a health center, a daycare center, a retail podium, parking for 1400 cars, a plaza with a green wall and a water wall, and a 5th-floor cafeteria that steps out onto the podium’s roof garden.  An east-facing winter garden at the base of the atrium features plantings that speak to the plaza outside and the park beyond.  Receiving full marks for development density and community connectivity, innovation in design, and water use reduction helped the project attain Gold certification.

LEED is the foremost program for the design, construction and operation of green buildings.  More than 79,600 total commercial projects are currently participating LEED, comprising more than 15.3 billion total commercial square feet of construction space in all 50 states and more than 161 countries and territories.
