Architectural Designer I

Duties: Under direct supervision of Senior Architects, will engage in the design development and contract documents and perform drafting and presentation work using 3D modeling/rendering by AutoCAD, 3D Max, Photoshop, Rhino or other media, as required, within established timeframes. Research technical systems, adhere to procedures and determine procedures and instructions to be followed, according to design specifications and quantity of required materials as well as research unknown materials and systems. Make recommendations based on functionality, physical requirements, regulatory codes, environmental rules and regulations, safety issues, and other design and construction-related factors. Incorporate knowledge of properties and utilization of materials, spatial principles, integration of historical design perspectives, structural design, and urban planning and development in preparing architectural plans and drawings, taking into account project specifications and review of local, state, and federal codes, standards and regulations. Architectural Designer II (Luxury Hotels)

Duties: Apply theoretical and practical concepts to resolve design problems based on functional adjacencies, physical limitations, regulatory codes, environmental rules and regulations, safety considerations, and other design and construction related factors for luxury hotels. Lead the layout of front-of-house hotel planning for luxury hotels in dense urban contexts; assist operators/owners in the design and functional layout of critical back-of-house planning and hotel parking areas. Lead a project team in the development of architectural goals and design concepts for large-scale projects with emphasis on center-city hotel buildings. Knowledge Manager

As the firm’s “data champion,” s/he must be exceptionally well-organized, detail-oriented and passionate about information management and knowledge sharing.

We seek a dynamic, creative, communicative, and service-oriented colleague to provide leadership, vision, and oversight of the KPF digital archives and knowledge management across its offices around the globe. The KPF Knowledge Manager will work closely with colleagues from all the KPF offices to ensure that the collective key working knowledge of the company is captured and remains current and relevant to each global area as well as to the firm as a whole. The KPF Knowledge Manager will also work closely with KPF’s programmers to fully integrate the knowledge capture onto the intranet as the best way todisseminate shared information across the global company. 

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Managing the project database and both the digital and physical resource libraries,establishing protocols, systems and policies for data collection, cataloguing and curationand ensuring relevancy, timeliness and accuracy of data
  • Managing project data archiving, establishing protocols, systems and policies for archivingincluding conversion from paper to digital and extraction of data and content
  • Chairing intelligence committees, coordinating engagement and overseeing production ofdeliverables (ex. guides, benchmarks, precedents, etc.)
  • Training staff in knowledge management protocols and systems and providing ongoingsupport as needed
  • Harvesting data, information, content and assets including post-occupancy data andmetrics

Lead Document Controller

Job Position:  Lead Document Controller in architect’s office for large scale, full service project in NYC currently under construction. Full time position, full benefits offered.  Available immediately.

Responsibilities (spanning across multiple construction packages):

  • Manage organization of large drawing sets, specifications, reports, submittals, etc.
  • Issue and receive files to/from the design and construction teams
  • Use construction administration software for submittals and RFIs
  • Maintain record logs for drawings, submittals, and RFIs
  • Construction document updates and modifications
  • Liaise with client, contractor, and consultants as it relates to document control.  
  • Liaise with printer for major issuances
  • Maintain project-wide team directory

Potential additional tasks:

  • Light drafting (Revit training provided)
  • Drawing conversion between drafting programs
  • Review product data submittals for compliance w/ specification.

Prerequisites:

  • Architectural or construction background (worked in industry, minimum 2 year associates degree)

Videographer

Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates, P.C. in New York, NY seeks a videographer to join our global marketing and communications team.

We are looking for someone with a passion for both architecture and visual story-telling -- and who has the technical proficiency to support his/her ability in crafting compelling narratives.

Undertaking an exciting new role at the firm, the videographer will collaborate with architecture and marketing colleagues to write, storyboard, shoot and edit videos about our firm and our work, creating audiovisual content for multiple audiences that include clients, staff, collaborators, press and peers.

S/he will produce material to support our business development, communications, outreach and design efforts alike, with outlets including (but not limited to) social media posts, design competitions, new business presentations, career fairs, industry conferences, and internal events.

The ideal candidate has a BA and/or MA degree in communications, journalism, media/film studies or equivalent with previous experience producing multi-media, ideally related to the built environment. S/he must be at once creative and organized, visionary and detail-oriented, capable of handling all aspects of production from planning to filming to editing to post.
