30 Hudson Yards Named Finalist in NYCxDESIGN Awards

The KPF-designed office tower earned recognition in the Commercial Lobby/Amenity Space category for its finely crafted materiality and transit-connected spaces.

In addition to a dramatic, 55-foot-tall main entry at the building’s northwest corner, KPF’s design for the interiors of 30 Hudson Yards includes upper, lower, and tenant lobbies that work together to create an experience of transition from an urban, busy environment to one of focus and work, with meticulously designed details of stone, wood, and bronze.

Highlights of the lobby spaces include a dramatic cast bronze wall and anigre wood framing, which welcome visitors beneath Jaume Plensa's “Voices”, an art piece of stainless steel spheres hung from the ceiling that highlights the volume of the upper and lower lobbies. A dark and sinuous curved wall is formed of thinly sliced veneer over a doubly curved CNC milled plywood base and lifts to reveal a café, inviting interaction and gathering in the main space, while tenant lobbies are scaled down and more intimate, with custom glass light fixtures and large Ombra di Caravaggio marble slabs that become an art piece of their own.

Now in its fifth year, the NYCxDESIGN Awards, presented by Interior Design and sponsored by ICFF, honor outstanding projects and products in categories that span major areas of design. This year’s NYCxDESIGN Awards Ceremony, hosted by editor in chief Cindy Allen, will be live-streamed on DesignTV by SANDOW on Monday, May 18th at 1PM EST.
