Sean Roche is a Director at KPF with more than 15 years of experience as a designer and project manager working on design projects across China. His work has encompassed a wide variety of project types, including mixed-use, commercial, residential, retail, hospitality, infrastructure and transportation, and master planning developments. The broad diversity of Sean’s experiences results in a design approach that is based on a strong understanding of the place, culture and climatic demands specific to each project he undertakes.
In China, Sean serves as Project Manager for Beijing Huadu Center, which is scheduled to be complete in 2017. The project is a sophisticated and integrated mix of program elements, including an art museum, boutique urban hotel, served apartments, high-end office space and retail, all set within a richly landscaped garden environment.
Sean is also managing the team designing KPF’s Dongjiadu master plan in Shanghai, China. Embedded into the historic city context, the proposed master plan is cohesive and harmonious as it incorporates elements specific to its locale in terms of character, texture and culture. The master plan represents a new approach to urban planning in Shanghai, emphasizing the crafting of interconnected urban spaces rather than discrete landmarks.
In Shenzhen, China, Sean managed and coordinated the team for One Shenzhen Bay, which is a mixed-use project that blends hospitality, office, retail and residential into the newly created district of Houhai. Acting as a threshold between the rolling, natural coastline of the bay and the structured, vibrancy of the city, the project emphasizes the relationship and duality of the natural landscape and urban context at every level.
Sean holds an advanced degree in architecture from the Bartlett, University College London, and an undergraduate degree in architecture from the University of Manchester. He is a certified member of the Royal Institute of British Architects and a LEED Accredited Professional.
